Wilter is a mother and a farmer in Kitale, Western Kenya and has been in active farming for seven years. Her farm produces tomatoes and cabbages for the local market. She is married with five children who are all schooling.
Wilter has made a second loan request with Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She says this will help in providing the family with milk for daily consumption as well as additional income to meet other family needs. She adds her hotel business which she runs to supplement her farming income will also do better due to availability of cheaper milk from her own farm.
She however points out at animal diseases and occasional droughts as the main challenges.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
