Hildah is a farmer in Kisii area, South Rift Kenya. She is married and has five children, who are all in school. She has been in the farming business for four years and sells her maize, beans, and bananas to the local market.
Hildah has requested a loan of 26,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She says she will use the income to provide basic needs for her family and educate her children as she focuses on buying two more dairy cows in the near future.
Hildah says animal diseases and poor market prices remain the major challenges in her farming business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
