Eunice is a farmer in Murang’a and has practiced farming for twenty years. Her farm mainly produces maize, beans, milk and bananas which she sells within the local market to meet family needs. Her farming income is supplemented by her second hand clothes business.
Eunice has made a loan request amounting to 80,000 KES .She will use the money to buy a water pump at 60,000 KES and water pipes at 20,000 KES which she will mainly use in irrigating her bananas plantation. She plans to set up a bigger and better boutique retail shop to help boost her farming.
She counts occasional dry spells and lack of funds as the major challenges.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
