Allan
Allan is 24 years old and single, and lives with his grandmother for work-related reasons. With the support from this loan, he plans to purchase kitchen utensils, such as a rice cooker, saucepan, and other items that they need in their home. His goal is to help his grandmother acquire these items to improve their wellbeing and to make her efforts in the kitchen much easier. He is also considering his own wellbeing in this situation, since he lives with his grandmother and helps her out around the house as he is able. His work schedule is very demanding, however, leaving him very little time to cook for them and help with household chores.

He hopes to pay back the loan very quickly and, with each payment, improve their quality of lie. This is his first loan with FUDECOSUR, and he has not had loans before with state-run banks either. He decided on FUDECOSUR for this loan because of their lower interest rates and better client support.

More information about this loan

FUDECOSUR works in one of the poorest regions of Costa Rica, where microfinance institutions (MFIs) are scarce or have a hard time keeping up with demand for small loans. By providing mostly agricultural loans, FUDECOSUR reaches rural borrowers that many MFIs consider to be too risky. However, this has also made it more difficult for the organization to find stable sources of capital to lend. Kiva's flexible, risk-tolerant capital plays a critical role in helping FUDECOSUR grow its portfolio and support even more borrowers.

About FUDECOSUR:

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
