Mohira
Mohira was born in 1986. She is single and lives with her mother, having grown up without a father. Since it's difficult for her mother to make ends meet alone, Mohira doesn't stay idle and works as a lab assistant at the university. Additionally, she and her mother keep livestock at their dacha and sell milk and dairy products. Their main customers are their nieghbours. As their apartment is in need of repairs, Mohira would like to use this loan to improve their living conditions. She thanks MDO Arvand, LLC in advance.

About MDO Arvand

MDO Arvand is one of the leading microfinance institutions in Tajikistan, offering small loans to entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. This makes an enormous difference in a country, which is not only the poorest in Central Asia, but also home to a population where two-thirds live below the poverty line. Today, Tajikistan's economy literally depends on remittances being sent from family members working abroad in Russia because there are so few local job opportunities.

But Arvand loans have been able to make a difference and change lives. Read about some of the incredible success stories they have seen here in this Kiva blog post: Bringing hope to Tajikistan with Arvand -- one success story at a time.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
