Mwanamkasi is a married woman with two children, both of whom attend school. She owns a house that has neither electricity nor piped water. Her greatest monthly expense is food for her family.
For the past 7 years, she has operated a weaving business, making roofing materials from coconut leaves and selling them from her home to her customers. She faces a major challenge of transportation and seasonality. She dreams of opening a kiosk.
With the Kshs. 20,000 she wants to purchase a stock of rice, sugar, maize flour, wheat flour and cooking oil to start a kiosk. She decided to join Yehu to access loans to uplift her living standards.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
