Sibiah is a resident and farmer in Kisii, Kenya. She has 30 years of experience in farming. Her farm is managed with the help of three farmhands currently. Her produce consists mainly of maize, beans and napier grass, which is sold at the local market. She runs a milling machines business for additional income. She laments of the effect of pests and diseases which often destroy farm produce before harvest.
Sibiah has requested a loan of 80,000 Kenyan shillings from Juhudi Kilimo to help her buy a dairy cow. This is her second loan request with Juhudi Kilimo and she hopes to earn better income and expand her farm by buying more land in five years’ time.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
