Maria
María is single and has two children who are high school students. They live in their own home which consists of only three small rooms. María resides in the District of Pampahasi in the city of La Paz. She currently generates income by selling clothes and jewelry. María works every day for more than 10 hours since this is her only source of income by which she can support her family. With what little she earns, María is able to pay for expenses such as food, education, and medical care since she does not have insurance. For this reason, she is requesting a loan in order to buy more clothing and jewelry, which will increase her earnings.

María dreams of building additional rooms so that she can provide greater comfort for her children and improve their quality of life. She also wants to improve her income so that she can pay for her children's education. This is the first time she has requested a loan form IMPRO and Kiva.

About IMPRO

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
