Hugo works by himself. The merchandise he will be needing will be purchased in Santiago. He plans to acquire a wide variety of products for his business. With this loan, he will buy all of the supplies that he needs for working in his business. His business goals include opening a shop in the center of Valdivia.

Hugo lives with his wife, who works as a sales executive (for a telephone company). His 23-year-old daughter works and studies. Hugo dreams of having a public company. He is very pleased with and appreciative of the opportunity provided by Fondo Esperanza to invest in his business. In addition, he is very satisfied to be participating in a group in which the members are unified and reliable.

Valdivia is a city in southern Chile and is located in the region of Los Ríos. This area is known for having one of the few navigable rivers in Chile, the Calle Calle. Valdivia's main industries include ship builders, lumber mills, paper processing plants, cellulose plants (Celco), breweries, and grain mills, as well as educational institutions led by the Southern University of Chile.

Este Banco Comunal se llama “Estrella del sur”, esta conformado por 18 emprendedores quienes se dedican a diferentes rubros, entre los cuales se encuentran; venta de joyas, pescaderia, artesania en madera, venta de mermeladas, venta de comida envasada. Todos ellos pertenecientes a la ciudad de Valdivia.
Hugo Presidente del grupo comunal, quien en la foto se encuentra de pie y es el unico hombre que conforma el Banco Comunal.
El se dedica al rubro de ventas de perfume, se ocupa de este negocio hace 7
Meses, el cual trabaja solo.
La mercaderia que va necesitando la compra generalmente en Santiago ya que encuentra gran variedad de productos para su negocio.

About Fondo Esperanza

Fondo Esperanza (FE) is a private non-profit organization that supports entrepreneurship by providing micro-credit and training to people living in poverty in well over 100 cities throughout Chile. By providing these services, FE aims to improve the living conditions of the entrepreneurs and their families. In 2010, FE provided loans to more than 41,000 entrepreneurs. It utilizes a communal banking model in which groups of 18 to 25 clients meet on regularly and guarantee each other’s loans. The members use their portion of the loan to create or expand their own businesses. In the group meetings, clients receive training though the FE Entrepreneurship School, which enhances clients’ personal and business skills and ability to work in groups.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
