The borrower is the leader of the Hodaridari lending group. She is a dynamic and experienced entrepreneur with a spine. She is 50 years old and mother to eight children who are all in school. She sells small items outside of her home, notably rice, sugars, Fanta, soaps, salts, spices, etc. Her husband is currently unemployed.

She founded her business with a loan thorough Hekima upon hearing about the activities of the MFI in the city of Goma from her neighbours. The profits from her business are used for savings, food, and tuition for her children. However, she just completed her seventh loan cycle. Over the course of this time period, She has seen her business prosper well.

Thanks to loans through Hekima, she has been able to garner household essentials for her family, and so she has decided to take out a larger loan this time. This loan will enable her to buy 2 crates of biscuits, 10 cases of Fanta, 2 cans of Rina oil, etc. for her inventory.

Moreover, she hopes to see her children grow up in comfort. She thanks Hekima and their partners for empowering poor, low-income women.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
