Oliver De Jesus
Oliver is married and has two children. He used to live with his family in the city when he had a job as a salesman in a store. Due to circumstances beyond his control, he was forced to move to live in the countryside and wanting to generate family income he and his wife opened a general store that gradually with much effort has been gaining positioning.

The store has been in operation for about four years now and thanks to the good service provided has managed to secure a good number of customers although he has great difficulties, like transport of products, because due to the great distance involved products cannot be delivered directly to the store but rather to an intermediate point where Oliver then has to carry them on his shoulder the rest of the way to his store.

Despite this, his family has succeeded in improving its quality of life and has managed to access better economic opportunities. Because of this he always watches over the store so that it will grow and he will be able to offer his customers better service.

This is why his sales have been increasing now and he’s looking for a loan that will make it possible for him to buy basic staple items to increase the variety of products he offers his customers thus increasing his sales.

In this way his business will be able to continue to grow and his income will increase too. His dream is to have a very well-stocked store so that residents of his rural neighborhood won’t have to travel to the cities to shop but rather will find everything they need in his store.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
