Jose
José is a single father. He and his son occupy a room at his parents' house, which is located in the District of Achachicala in the city of La Paz.

José's son is studying at a university. For this reason, he needs a loan to pay for his university studies since he does not have much income. José sells rice and works more than 10 hours a day as a street vendor. He does not have an established location where he conducts his sales. With the income he earns, José is able to cover the family expenses and pay for visits to the doctor since he does not have medical insurance. José dreams of owning a house where he can provide greater comfort and security for his son at this stage in his life since young people need their own space.

This is the second time José has worked with IMPRO and the first time with Kiva.

The financial resources at the dispoal of IMPRO clients are normally not enough to provide for their children's education. For this reason, loans are often requested at the beginning of the school year in order to pay for primary or secondary school tuition, purchase school supplies and uniforms, as well as to pay for college.

About IMPRO

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
