Constance is a woman with two children between the ages of one and six years, both of whom are enrolled in school. She is married to William, a store keeper. Constance operates a charcoal-selling business and has been in this business for the last year. She sells her charcoal both from home and as retail, mostly to neighbors and passersby. She lives in a rental house that has electricity but no piped water. She aspires to open a shop in the future and states that she will use the loan of 20000 KES to buy sacks of charcoal for sale.

This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
