Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Flor De Maria's story

Flor is a hard working and enthusiastic woman of 43 years, but she has the spirit of a young woman of 20. Flor has two children whom she adores, both 20 years old now, and she dedicates her life to making them happy and providing a good quality of life. Flor lives in the district of Santiago, Ica, in Peru. This area is characterized by its warm and comfortable climate, as well agriculture, especially cotton, grapes, asparagus and paprika, to name just a few. It's also known for its friendly people. When Flor has free time, she enjoys watching television, especially comedy series. She also enjoys one of her favorite dishes, rice and chicken. Every day Flor works hard running her small general store, where she sells staple items as well as provides photocopying services. During her 10 hour days, she has about 50 customers come through the store. Flor believes her business is successful because she is very charismatic with her customers and always offers quality products at fair prices. Flor is very grateful for the Kiva loans. With this support, she will be able to repair her photocopy machine, which helps her increase her income and provide better service to her customers. Flor continues to work hard to realize her dream, to have her own home.
