Las Divinas Group's story

“Las Divinas” (The Divine Ones) is a group made up of 11 people from a sugarcane producing zone. Its residents work cutting sugarcane, planting it and work in a large sugarcane plantation that processes sugar located in the community.

Omar is one of the group members. He’s 33 years old and only went to elementary school. He’s single living with his family in the community of Vicente. He relates that he’s always worked to get ahead but for the last year he’s been operating a taco shop and small eatery at home in a small porch area he has in front. His sales take place on the weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Since he’s been selling now for some time he has regular customers who come by to purchase from him.

Omar will invest this loan in the purchase of meat, tortillas, cabbage, radishes, an assortment of chilies, onions, tomatoes, oil, gas and soft-drinks to prepare his food to sell. He hopes that with this loan his business as well as his profits will continue to grow because he plans to invest his profits in the purchase of tables and chairs.
