Ramiro
Ramiro is single and has no children. He lives in his parents’ house in the city of La Paz’s Pasankeri zone. He works more than 8 hours as an employee in a private firm and at night attends university which is why he’s asking for a loan to buy course materials because he does not earn enough income to buy his textbooks because he contributes to his family’s food costs.

Ramiro’s dream is to improve his income and finish his university studies to become independent and improve his quality of life. This is the second time he’s worked with IMPRO and first with KIVA.

The financial resources Impro clients normally have are insufficient to provide education for their children. Because of this they often seek loans at the beginning of the school term for their children attending primary and/or secondary schools to pay fees, buy school supplies and uniforms. In this specific case, the schooling costs are Ramiro’s.

About IMPRO

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
