Juan David
Juan David, 19, is a young man who thanks to working hard and making an effort in life now has great experience in carpentry because his father is also in this occupation and he’s been working and learning by his side for about five years. Thanks to this, Juan David has had the opportunity to stand out because of the good quality of his work and this has given him the opportunity to contribute economically to his home helping to cover costs that arise there.

Juan David currently has a partner and she’s six months pregnant so he has a great future responsibility, a responsibility he seeks to face by setting up his own business to generate higher income. Before, Juan David was unable to set up his own business because he was a minor and people couldn’t contract him directly but now that he’s become of age he’s been doing work independently very sporadically because in order to do it he has to lease the necessary tools. This is why he’s looking for a loan that will give him the opportunity of buying the work tools needed to do carpentry work independently to gradually set up his own business.

Juan David hopes that his income will rise considerably this way and he will then be able to make progress with his partner and his child that’s on the way. In addition, he dreams with moving his own family forward and to continue contributing to his home so that they will have a good quality of life.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
