“Las Chicas del Grupo Coral” is a Credituyo solidarity group in its third cycle. The group is called that because most of the members like corals. This group is located in the east of the city of Monterrey and it has six members.

Nancy is one of the group members. She’s 40 years old and a single mother of three children who are 17, 8 and 2 years old. Her 17 year old son works and studies to help with family expenses. Nancy used to work as an employee in a cosmetics firm but a year ago decided to start her own business aiming at earning better income. Now, Nancy owns a small business where she sells clothes and women’s accessories in the various street markets in her neighborhood.

With her loan Nancy wants to buy more clothes and accessories in order to have more variety in her stand. Her long-term goal is to open a boutique in a shopping center. She also hopes to buy a car to help her transport her merchandise and to take her children to school.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
