The communal bank is called "Los Pinos" and is comprised of four ladies who have their own businesses in the village of Coapilla, where the festivity of Our Lady of Candelaria is celebrated every February 2nd.

The person interviewed was Flor de Luz who is married to Gilberto, and they have three children, two of whom are still in their care. Another daughter lives independently.

She has requested a loan to buy supplies such as hair color, nail polish, glue for acrylic nails and other beauty salon items. She has been in business for 23 years and claims it is going well for her. She started the business when she was very young and her mother paid for her to take courses to learn to do a good job, which is what she has been doing.

Over time she would like to expand her salon so her daughter can work there too, since she is studying in the beauty field.

The members of the group are: María de Jesús, who will use her loan to buy and sell cosmetics; Marina, who will buy ingredients to make bread; and Magdali, who will buy ingredients to make tacos.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
