Irene is 40 years old. Her three children are her best motivation to keep working. She has always worked preparing and selling food. In the past, she used to sell 'chicharrones' but she stopped because her sales were very low. Encouraged by her sister, she started selling 'ceviche' (fish marinated in citrus juice). This is a more popular dish and it has made her better profits. She carries out this work in the mornings and in the evenings she sells kebabs which are also in demand with the people who come to her business. The area in which her business is located is a very good one because of the surrounding factories. Through her work, Irene helps her daughter with her education. What she would most like is to see her daughter become a professional. Her biggest dream is to own her own premises in which to set up her restaurant. Irene will use her loan to buy tables, benches and some pans. This will allow her to better serve her customers.

Irene is a member of the 'Corazón de Jesús' group which is located in Los Olivos neighborhood, in Lima, Peru.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
