Mruu is a 41-year-old married man with six children, all of whom are enrolled in school. He lives in a rental house that has neither electricity nor piped water. His core business is to repair bicycles, mostly for the local residents. He has been in this business for the last 15 years. Mruu aspires to open a wholesale business and hire employees in the future. He describes rent and school fees to be his greatest monthly expense. He plans to use the loan of KSH 20,000 to purchase more spare parts for his business.

This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
