Edward has been in mixed farming for over eighteen years and currently relies on his farming income to meet all his family’s needs. He also retails cereals (grains) to supplement his farming income.
Edward has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy dairy goats for his dairy farm due to their resistance to harsh weather conditions. He plans to buy more acres of land to expand his farming business.
Edwards points out poor market prices, high cost of farm inputs, and labour costs of farmhands as the major challenges.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
