Vilma is 44 years old, she is married and she has 5 children. It was her sister who encouraged her to work selling clothes and other items such as slippers and shoes. At one time she managed to have a premises where she sold directly to the public. Her business was going very well but due to a lack of support from her family she had to give it up. After a while she started up the same business again but in a different way. She sold her products from house to house and her customers are mainly her friends, family and acquaintances. With her loan she will buy clothes and footwear, taking advantage of the fact that Mothers’ Day is coming up and sales will rise. Her job is a great contributor to the maintenance of her family, especially in supporting her children in their education. She hopes that in near future she will have her own store once again, where she can display her products and therefore earn a better income. The group to which she belongs is called “LOS GIRASOLES DEL ALGODONAL” [The Cotton Field Sunflowers] and it is made up of ten members.

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
