The “Concentidas” (The Pampered Ones) communal bank will start its sixth cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Los Andes Focal Center. It has 11 members led by a governing board headed by Silveria. The members of the communal bank have a variety of businesses. Among them we have: sweater knitting, candy sales, crafts and sewing, hardware, food sales, blanket sales and clothing sales.

Silveria indicates that she’s been part of Pro Mujer communal associations for years having been invited to join by a girlfriend. She currently has a hardware business that she’s been operating for years.

The loan she will take out is to increase merchandise. She will buy screws in the city of Oruro and then sell them in her store. This business helps her support her family since she’s married and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she likes the training.

In the photo, René is with the group representing his mother, María, who was at the health clinic.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
