The businesses of the members of the community association are varied and among these we have: chicken raising, quinoa processing, wool dyeing and making baits for traditional remedies, small-scale coca sales, sportswear sewing services, sales of beer and food, blanket weaving and macrame.

María Eugenía says that this is the first time she has joined a community group with Pro Mujer; she joined at the request of a cousin. She currently has a business in sewing sportswear, which she has worked at for years, learning from a former job.

The loan that she will receive is for a change in businesses (to buy coca), which she will buy from the market in La Paz and afterward will sell in the highland markets each afternoon. These sales will help her to support her family, as she is a widow and has eight children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responded that she likes the health center.

In the photo, you can also see a woman in a yellow top with the group, she is the daughter of Ms. Porfiria.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
