Beatrice is a resident of Kitale town in Western Kenya where she lives with her nine children aged between 23 and 7 years. She has been in farming for three years and employs one farmhand. Her farm produces milk and maize for the local market.
Beatrice has requested a loan of 31,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She aspires to own four dairy cows within the next four years. She reiterates that the acquisition of an additional dairy cow will provide milk for family consumption as well as income to meet other needs.
Beatrice says animal diseases are the challenge in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
