Nathan is a resident of Litein, South Rift, Kenya and has been in dairy farming for five years. His farm produces milk, which he sells to the local market. He also operates as a broker for tea, which he sources from the local farmers and sells to factories both within and outside of the Litein area.
Nathan has made a loan request for 45,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo, which he will use to buy a chuff cutter to improve his dairy animal's feeding. He says his focus is just to concentrate on making his dairy business better, enjoy the economies of scale with time and be able to provide his family with basic needs.
He says the major challenge remains poor market prices within the local market and the poor road system, which compels farmers to sell to the local markets.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
