Peter is the father of three children aged five, three and one year. He has been farming for five years. He is currently producing mainly maize, potatoes and milk, which he sells to the local market.
Peter has requested a loan of 31,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo in order to buy and insure a dairy cow. He believes that, as a result, his dairy will improve and generate increased income to enable the acquisition of more assets to secure the family future. He also wants to venture into poultry farming.
He laments the poor roads and prices for farm produce in the local markets.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
