Christine is a married mother of three children of primary school going age. She lives with her family in her rural home in Western Kenya. She has been in farming for four years and operates a hotel in the local market to supplement her farming income. She sells her farm produce which are majorly onions and milk to the local market.
Christine has requested a loan of 31,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She believes her hotel business will benefit much with increase in milk production and generate better income to meet other family needs. Her focus is to own rental houses and venture into transport business and scale up her dairy business.
She says challenge posed by animal diseases is the most significant in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
