Xanbala is 60, married and has three children. He has bred livestock from very young age, thanks to his father who taught him well. He already has 26 years of experience. During these years, Xanbala has acquired the knowledge and skills required for the business.
Xanbala purchase lambs and calves in the central livestock market and raises them. After fattening the animals, he resells them for a profitable price in the livestock bazaar. Meat is in very high demand in Azerbaijan and people use it in everyday dishes like pilau and dolma.
Xanbala's business requires a lot of physical strength as he spends most of his time in the open air. His wife helps him to feed the animals. His monthly income is 230 AZN and Xanbala wishes to increase it. As meat is in high demand, he needs more capital to put into his business and cover the market. For this purpose, he applied for 1000 AZN. He will use the loan to buy two cattle and more fodder.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
