Namiq J. is a 51-year-old farmer who raises milk cows for dairy sales and breeds calves for meat sales. He has run this business since 2001. Originally, he is from a small village in Imishli, and he continues living there with his wife and four children. It is hard to sustain a six-member family, so Namiq has decided to develop the one financial source in his family, and purchase more calves for breeding. For this purpose, he has applied for $1200 USD to purchase 3 calves for $400 USD each.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
