Mwanakombo is a 37-year-old married woman with five children, three enrolled in school. She operates a green grocery and sells her goods from home. She has been in the business for the last three years. Her ambition is to open a kiosk. Her other sources of income include earnings from her husband. She joined Yehu so as to get funds to expand her business.
Mwanakombo owns a house that has neither electricity nor piped water. She describes her major challenge to be price fluctuation and her greatest monthly expense to be food for the family. She intends to use the loan of Ksh 25,000 to purchase tomatoes and potatoes.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
