Violita is from Lapinig, Kapatagan, Lanao Del Norte. She is 31 years old. Violita is married and has three children. To make a living, she owns and operates a general store and she also makes and sells baskets made of "lagpakanay". She has been in her business for four years and earns 10,000 PHP a month for these activities.
In 2011, Violita joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. She is requesting a loan of 20,000 PHP which will be used to buy more stock to sell and to buy more "lagpakanay" used in making baskets. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve the general living conditions of her family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
