Communal bank "Solidario Mujeres Triunfantes"

Raimunda is married, and for 15 years has been selling tortillas for a living. She has a son who is single and still lives with her. She is requesting this loan to buy firewood and corn so she can make tortillas. Now is the time of year when firewood is at is best price and she will be able to dry it before the winter season so she does not have to worry about it then. Corn is also being sold at a good price now and will later increase, even though tortilla prices will remain the same. She wants to have sufficient merchandise on hand for the future. She also wants to continue fattening the pigs she has at home, and buy more for the future. But she does not have sufficient capital and is requesting a loan through FAPE to buy what she needs.

About FAPE

FAPE, the Foundation for the Assistance of Small Businesses, is a nonprofit, socially-minded institution that provides loans to micro-entrepreneurs across Guatemala.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
