Maviş Group
In this Group: Zeynep, Nurgül, Sema
Zeynep is 32 years old and was born in Eskişehir. She is married with one child. Her husband is a taxi driver. Zeynep is a very sociable woman. She has good relationships with the people around her. She thinks that a woman should work, not stay at home. She established the idea that “before you consume, you need to produce” as her principle in life and has even spread this idea to her neighbours. She has been a member of Maya for two years.

After building her group, she and the group members have been doing various work, in order to contribute to meeting their families’ expenses. Zeynep didn’t have a chance to be educated, but it can be said that she is a non-educated artist. They have been creating very nice handicrafts and decorating items which can be regarded as pieces of art. While doing the sales of the art works via internet, now with the support of Maya, they opened a shop.

Zeynep has been selling the items she makes herself and the other group members' creations in this shop. With this loan, she will buy supplies. She is a good mother, a good wife and of course a good businesswoman. She has been a role model for her family and her child.

About Maya

Although Turkey is one of the largest economies in the region, it has not reached its potential for microfinance investment. Deficient legal structures for microfinance credit initiatives and lack of quality information about microfinance demand and structure in Turkey are the largest obstacles to improvements in the field. Under these challenging conditions, Maya provides group and individual loans to low-income women who lack access to the financial services they need in order to start or improve their own small-scale businesses. Maya, established in 2002, was Turkey’s first microcredit program. Maya is Kiva’s first Field Partner in Turkey and posted its first loans in August 2011. Headquartered in Istanbul, Maya has four branch offices. For more information, visit Maya’s partner page.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
