Maribel is married and has an 8 year old son who she’s always wanted to offer a better quality of life and access to a better quality of education. Because the income Maribel’s husband generates is insufficient to cover all household expenses, she decided to start a business where she could be able to watch over her son and the business at the same time and this is how she started to sell clothes and personal use items via catalogue.

She has done very well in this business and aside from some delays in her customers’ payments; the business has been profitable and has allowed her to offer her family a better quality of life.

Maribel has been noted for offering very good products and very good service to her customers and thanks to this she’s been able to win over a great number of customers which allows her to have good sales levels. Hoping to stock her business and increase the variety of products she has on offer, Maribel is looking for a loan that will allow her to purchase articles of clothing to stock her business and have a wider variety of products available for her customers.

Maribel hopes this way that her business will continue to grow and that her customers will see it more attractive for purchases. In addition, she hopes that with higher income her family will be able to enjoy a better quality of life and greater opportunities to make progress. Maribel dreams with having enough money to provide a proper dwelling for her son.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
