The Donatin group is composed of three people living in the same neighborhood. It is the sixth time that the group is seeking financial support from ALIDé, in order to expand their business. The group’s representative, by the name of Bernadette, is the one raising her hand in the photo. Bernadette is 35 years old and lives in Benin. Bernadette stopped her formal education at the primary school level. Her husband’s name is Felix. They have two children, both in school. Bernadette lives together with her husband and children and, jointly with her husband, provides for various household needs. In order to cover her expenses, for five years Bernadette has been selling “akassa” (a thick cornmeal porridge) out of her home and also, as a secondary activity, other miscellaneous items. With the goal of meeting customer needs and increasing her sales volume and her revenues, Bernadette, together with the other members of the Donatin group, is seeking her sixth loan from ALIDé.

Le groupe DONATIN est composé de trois personnes qui résident dans le même quartier. C'est la sixième fois que ce groupe sollicite l'aide financier de ALIDé, afin d'élever le niveau de son activité. La représentante du groupe, du nom de Bernadette est celle qui a la main levée sur la photo. Bernadette est âgée de 35 ans et vit au Bénin. Bernadette a arrêté l’école au niveau primaire. Bernadette est mariée à un certain Félix. Le couple a deux enfants, tous scolarisés. Bernadette vit ensemble avec ses enfants et son mari et assure ensemble avec son mari les diverses charges de la maison. Afin d'assurer ses diverses charges, Bernadette vend depuis cinq ans de l’akassa (pâte à base de maïs) et divers produits à son domicile de façon secondaire. Bernadette s’approvisionne dans un marché du Bénin. Dans la quête de la satisfaction de sa clientèle et pour accroître son chiffre d’affaires et son revenu, Bernadette sollicite ensemble avec les autres membres du groupe DONATIN, un sixième crédit auprès de ALIDé.

About Alidé

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
