Joshua is a father of three aged seventeen, twelve and seven years. He has been in the farming business for three years and also works as a driver with the government. His farm produces bananas and milk, which he sells to the local market.
Joshua has requested a loan of 80,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help him buy both a water tank and irrigation pipes in order to set up an irrigation system in his banana plantation. He says he will use the income to pay his children's school fees and improve their living standards.
He says it has become difficult to rely on rain water for his farming business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
