Victor
Víctor is a 64 year old man man living in a community called Osa located in Caña Blanca in Puntarenas Province. This community stands out because it’s a rural zone that gets many visitors due to its beaches. Its main economic activities are tourism, farming and raising livestock.

Víctor raises tilapias, an edible product in the zone where he lives and in other parts of the country. With the tilapia project he can improve his family’s quality of life and expand his market into other zones.

What Víctor needs at the moment is a one million colones micro loan to buy materials to build more tanks to increase tilapia production which will allow him to earn higher income.

Víctor is a member of the Caña Blanca communal bank, one of Edesa’s 150 member organizations in Costa Rica. With this loan he expects to grow more both personally and economically. He also points out that thanks to this type of organization and mean of facilitating credit he will be able to dedicate more time to productive activities.

Don Víctor es un señor de 64 años de edad , vive en la comunidad llamada Osa, localizada en Caña Blancal esto en la provincia de Puntarenas. Está comunidad se destaca por ser una zona rural muy visitada por sus playas. Sus principales actividades económicas son las turísticas y agropecuarias.

Don Víctor se dedica a la cría de tilapias, producto consumible en la zona donde vive y otras partes del país. Con el proyecto de tilapias pretende mejorar la calidad de vida de su familia y expandir el mercado hacia otras zonas.

Lo que en estos momentos solicita don Víctor es un micro crédito de un millón de colones (¢1.000.000), para comprar materiales para construir otros tanques para aumentar la producción de tilapia , lo que le permitirá obtener mayores ingresos económicos.

Don Víctor es socio de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal de Caña Blancal, una de las 150 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Con este préstamo se espera crecer más a nivel personal y económico. También destaca que gracias a este tipo de organizaciones y medios facilitadores de crédito puede dedicar más tiempo a las actividades productivas.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
