From Kompong Speu province, where Keo, 57, lives with her husband and three children, she cultivates the land for her livelihood. Rice is the main focus of the family. Keo has been engaged in the business for more than 30 years. She learned all the methods and followed the path of her ancestors in the way she lives and works.

She is taking out a loan from Kiva, through HKL, to buy construction supplies, which she will use to repair her present house. In the coming years, she wants to expand her farm and further establish the business.

About HKL

Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
