Mao is 35 years old and lives in a rural area in the Thmor Koul district, where rice farming is one of most common businesses in the village. Mao has five children, but only four of them are still under her responsibility and two of them are still in school.

To maintain her household, Mao grows rice as the main source of income and works for others for pay for additional income. She has been in her business for 10 years. This is her first loan cycle with VisionFund, which she forms as a group loan with the other member and is the group leader.

Mao and her group member are requesting a loan of KHR 500,000 each. As the group leader, Mao will use her portion of the loan to buy fertilizer and hire laborer for plowing her farmland. She hopes to grow her rice paddy healthfully and earn more income so that she still can keep her children in school.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
