Ruth is a mother of four children between 23 and 6 years old.
She has been in farming for five years. Her farm produces milk, maize and vegetables that she sells in the local market. She runs a hotel too, to cushion her farming income in meeting family needs.
Ruth has made a loan request amounting to 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy poultry birds for a venture into poultry farming. She says the boost and diversification in farming will help her pay for the education of her children and later buy a motorcycle to help her enter into the transport business as well. Her focus is to own 3,000 birds in her farm.
She says that food shortage for poultry is a major challenge to farmers in the area, though the market for birds is readily available.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
