Julie is 38 years old, married and has seven children. He is from Taguitic, Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte. Julie owns and operates a nipa-making business (weaving nipa palm to make roofing materials). He has been in his business for 4 years and earns 8,000 Philippine pesos (PHP) a month. In 2008, Julie joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve his living conditions and enable him to engage in business activities. Julie is requesting a new loan of 20,000 PHP which will be used to purchase raw materials to manufacture additional products. He plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve the general living conditions of his family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
