Wenceslao is sixty-four years old, a widower with three children. He is from Ozamis City, Misamis Occidental, Philippines, where his rice production is located. He was just twenty-five years old when he started cultivating this land. That was quite long ago but he never ceases because his passion for doing so urges him to go on working. At the end of the month, Wenceslao gets PHP 10,000, which he divides equally among his family.
Wenceslao joined GDMPC to access financial services offered by the cooperative. He has borrowed PHP 15,000 to buy fertilizer such as manure. He hopes to plant sooner so as not to waste time. Wenceslao plans to apply appropriate fertilizers and expand his business.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
