Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $875 helped to buy one dozen stuffed toys, sheets, jackets and sweatshirts.

Leonor's story

Leonor is a member of the “Santiago Apóstol” communal bank located in Paucarcolla District in Puno Province and Department. She’s 61 years old, married and has four independent children. She went to secondary school.

She’s been working with the Manuela Ramos Movement for the last four months. Her first loan was for 300 new soles that she used in her business selling articles of clothing like jackets, stuffed toys, umbrellas, sheets, bedspreads, etc.

At present, she’s asking for a new loan in the amount of 2,300 new soles to buy a dozen stuffed toys, sheets, jackets and sweatshirts; she sells her merchandise in the city of Cusco. Her husband and sometimes her daughter help her with the business.

Her dream for the future is to continue working for more time in the business and to open a grocery store. What she likes best about the communal bank is the low interest rate, the savings and her earnings.
