The "Kuña Guapa" women's committee was established in 2009, thanks to one of the members, which was part of another group that dissolved. She then invited other neighbors to form a new group and managed to bring together 18 women, who are working now on their eighth loan cycle. They work together, supporting each other within the program.

One of the members is Francisca, who owns a convenience store where she sells all kinds of goods such as groceries, sodas, sweets and the like. As the store is well-situated, she has very good sales, which helps her have a very good income. She dreams about being able to continue working and as such be able to help her family with a little more income.

She requests the loan to buy drinks, vegetables, bakery goods, sweets and the like, in order to supply her convenience store and in this way continue working. She is happy with the help she receives from Kiva and the Paraguayan Foundation.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
