The "LAS TRIUNFADORAS" (The Victorious) communal bank is beginning its tenth cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the regional office in Collpani. The group is made up of nine members with a board of directors headed by Crisol. The businesses run by this communal bank's members vary widely and among them are: sales of sports shoes, oil, videos, clothing, baby clothing, api (a typically Bolivian soft drink), jackets and cosmetics.
Crisol tells us that she has been a member of this communal bank for the last 3 years and she has been running her current business selling sports shoes for many years now. This cycle's loan will be for the purpose of expanding her business by purchasing more sports shoes, which she will buy from the markets in La Paz and later sell on her own stall. She is single and has 2 children so her work allows her to support her family.
When she is asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she replies that she likes the training and the care provided.
One member, Elva, is missing from this photo as she had to visit the doctor.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
