Jamale is a 39-year-old Lebanese woman living with her husband and her three children who are all studying. She notes that without her husband’s support, she wouldn’t be able to fulfill her family needs. Her husband has been working in the Lebanese army for five years. As for Jamale, she started her own home business as a hair dresser in 2008. She works independently and has her own customers. Today, she’s requesting to borrow a loan from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l to purchase new hair tools in addition to some cosmetic products for her business. She’s sure that this will increase her productivity and thus her earnings. In the future, she plans to open her own hair dressing salon outside of her home.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
