Nelius is a resident and a farmer in Nkubu area of Central Kenya. She is aged 40 and has been in farming for 6 years. Her farm is currently providing employment to two farmhands and produces maize, beans and milk to the local market. She is single with one child, aged 14.
Nelius has requested for a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help her construct a zero grazing unit for her dairy cows. She adds, such construction will help limit her expenditure on animal medicak treatments since the animals movements will be restricted and potential infections lowered.
Nelius points at unpredictable rains as the major challenge in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
