Gilberto De Jesus
Gilberto is a person who, in spite of the adversities that life has presented to him, has had the fortitude to overcome them and continue to progress, together with his family. In the past, Gilberto had a mechanic's workshop with which he generated employment and through which he was able to offer his family a better quality of life. Nevertheless, because of violent conflicts in his community, he saw the need to move to another community, leaving all his work behind. With the passing of time, his community has improved the situation with regard to violence, and he was able to return again to his own home. There he has again set up his motorcycle workshop, where he also has a store where he sells parts, and thanks to this, he has re-established his business, his home, and the quality of life of his family. Thanks to the good quality of the products he sells and the repairs that he does in his shop, Gilberto is a well-known person, and this has permitted him to have very good sales. With the spirit to seek better productivity in his shop, Gilberto is looking for a loan that will make it possible for him to buy work tools that will make his shop more productive and allow him to fill all the orders of his customers.

Gilberto hopes that in this way he can offer his customers better service and thus his sales will increase considerably. In addition, he hopes to be able to again generate jobs for the people most in need and thus impact the quality of life of many more people. Gilberto has the great dream of having a shop that is authorized by a well-known brand of motorcycles, and in this way he can have better accreditation.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
